The motherboard is the most important part of your computer. If you don't choose the motherboard correctly then you will get good performance. The motherboard is like mother. A mother connect the family beautifully and establish a good connection. The motherboard does the same thing. The motherboard connect the GPU CPU Ram HDD and SSD it synchronize all the parts with it.
Rules of choosing a motherboard:
First You have see the size of the motherboard and the Case. There are different type of case and different size of motherboard. The large size is the ATX the medium size mATX and small size is Mini ITX. ATX case support ATX ,mATX and mini ITX motherboard. but ATX motherboard doesn't support all kind of case. So before buy motherboard always check your casing.
Then you need to choose the processor of the motherboard. Most of the AMD motherboard is has AM4 socket and the old model have FM2+ , AM2+ and so on. The powerful and new socket ar TR4 and AM5. The socket list is very little in AMD but in Intel there is a large variety of socket. So you are doing a intel build then you have to check which socket your motherboard support and which socket is your processor.
You have to check the Ram support of the motherboard. AMD motherboard support 3200 mhz Ram but All intel processor doesn't support 3200 Mhz so does the motherboard. If you have 3200 Mhz Ram then I strongly suggest you to buy AMD motherboard because you can utilize full 3200 Mhz. but high end intel processor and motherboard support 3200 Mhz Ram. So check the Ram frequency of motherboard.
the next important thing is ports. there are many ports in a motherboard Sata, USB, Nvme, USB 3.0, Type C 3.0 Gen etc port. If you are a normal user or a normal gamer than ports shouldn't matter to you unless you have multiple USB device. However if some one is building a work station then you have check the ports of the motherboard. You also need to check the location of the port according to your need.
After all this is checked. The most important part is the chipset of the motherboard. The chipset is the main part of motherboard. basically it control everything. It also control the power usage in motherboard and delivery the power. the cheap chipset doesn't have a good power control. I brought an A320m motherboard and I am fade up with this motherboard. So buy a good chipset motherboard.
The last advice is you must at least have 100$ or above budget for your motherboard. I have brought the cheap AMD motherboard and Now I suffer. cheap motherboard has low feature and low quality power control. But Good quality motherboard has good power control motherboard and good feature.
